A little bit of this and a dozen of...what?

We went to the oriental store on the first week of this month and bought us some asian goodies. We bought a little bit of this and that and a dozen pack of TINAPA! Whoa! My husband has been bugging the Chinese lady to order some smoked fish or tinapa and she finally did. We found a bunch of them so hubby told me to get adozen lol.
I can't imagine that my husband and daughter would like tinapa so much just like me hahaha.  Now the stock is melting away, oh boy.  We need to make another trip before winter hits.

Spaghetti

I made some sphagetti at my FIl's  house last weekend.  Both hubby and Dad like spaghetti with hotdog and a little bit of sugar in the sauce.  The kids on the other hand just want to eat the noodles with cheese.

Have a safe and fun weekend everyone.

Froggy Cupcakes

Our sweet neighbor gave us some of the cupcake that she prepared for her class.  They are really pretty, in fact too pretty to eat I think lol.  Mr. Burrito  feasted on these for sure.  He just can't resist with sweet treats.
Don't these cupcakes look like little frogs?  Thanks Sarah for giving us some.

Italian Sausage Wrapped up in Hot Pepper

Here's another experiments that I tried in our kitchen. Some of you might have seen this in my husband's sponsored post p but I want to post it here again in my kitchen blog. Hubby and I love hot sausages from Johnsonville. We always prepare it with tomato sauce and pepper but I wanted to try a different way to prepare it.
Since it is a trial, I only cooked one sausage by boiling it in water until it's done. Let the water dry from the skillet with the sausage until some fats appear. Then cut out the sausage into desired sizes. Slice the pepper in half and remove the seeds. Then wrap up the sausage with it and put it back in the skillet.

The outcome would be a delicious sausage wrapped up in hot pepper.

Home Cooked Goodness

I tried to prepare a homemade chicken and mushroom yesterday. I used the recipe from the mix I bought in the store. Hubby liked it but I think, I need to alter the amount of milk and water because the rice got over cooked.  Anyhow, if you want some  home cooked goodness, below are some recipes from nubella.com that you can try.
As the weather turns cooler, we're gradually making the shift to foods that warm both the body and soul. And what better place to start than with chili? Tonight, prepare a steaming pot of Lentil Chili,Durango Chili, or Vegetarian Tex-Mex Chili. Enjoy with a side of sweet cornbread.

Toron with Langka

I found  a stock of plantain in the store when we had our grocery shopping the other day.  I bought a couple and then let it ripe at home.  I also bought extra lumpia wrappers and bottled jackfruit when we shopped at Oriental store in Pittsburgh.
"Toron is not a toron without langkah" according to hubby who loves this kind of  Philippine merienda.  The langka or jackfruit sweetened the plantain (plantain is not  sweet  compared to saba).
Yummy!

Mouth Watering Rib Recipes

If you want a mouth watering rib recipes, try one of these ooey gooey good recipes from nubella.com.  You won't be sorry in trying them.
Spicy, smoky, savory, sweet. However you like your ribs, we've got plenty of irresistible ideas. Dig your teeth into Hot and Spicy Spareribs, Orange-Honey Barbecued Ribs, or Short Ribs in Beer. Just don't forget the extra napkins!

Note:  picture and the recipes are from the nubella newsletter I received in email.  Not a sponsored post.

Dog food

Having a dog is like a having a kid.   The constant  expenses  never ends, from food to  their medical costs, it's continuous.  If you own a super hyper dog like ours, you should  invest  extra on a pet insurance because there are chances that he would get hurt.  It happened to us already and we regretted that we cancelled the insurance after his surgery.

I remember when he was a puppy, he wouldn't touch the  food that we put on his bowl but he eats it whenever we put it in our palms.  Hmmnn pretty spoiled wasn't he?  Anyhow, the vet advised us to give this kind of   puppy food and he started to eat by himself.  Now that he is big, he prefers table food rather his own food wahhhhhhh.

Shepperd's Pie

Our niece Jen made a Shepperd's Pie a couple of months a go and it was delicious.  I got to see how she prepared it so I think if I remember correctly, I would be able to make some one day.  That was the first time I tasted that  dish and it was so good!

Bicol Express Goodness

After we shopped for some oriental goodies, I made us a pan of  bicol express. I altered it my normal way of cooking it by adding some pineapple chunks.  I thought that hubby won't like it but I was surprised that he did!  He even liked it more than the normal way of preparing it.
If you want to try to make one, just check out the recipe here and add some pineapple.

Hot Lunch

I think my daughter got tired of the food that I prepare for her everyday so today she requested for her to eat hot lunch in school.  It cost $2.50 for their hot lunch.  She only brought her snack.  Part of the reason  I think is her classmates, who keep telling her to eat hot lunch in school.  So we let her try and see if she likes it.

Below is the food that she ate yesterday.  I baked some chicken nuggets, rice, and veggies.

Mutual Decision

my KSA!
Hubby and I respect each other so whatever it is that we have to decide, we talk about it, weigh the pros and cons, and decide after wards. Even when I was still in the Philippines, he would ask me before deciding on stuff. Unless it is a gift that he want to give me, he won't ask lol. Now that we're together, it's always us that decides not just him or me.  I feel guilty sometimes because  I always say NOn especially if I know that we can live without it.  I always say YES though  for the things that we need.  Overall, I can say that my YES depends on the situation, how about you? Share us your story at..

Chef or Eater?

Since Rylie started going to school, my son EJ  started to show interest in the kitchen.  He would always  offer his help  to cook  something.  He would say "I wanna be a Chef".
But wait, does he really want to be a chef or he is just a plain eater hehehe.

A Salute for those who SERVE!

My kids and I are very proud of Daddy for his 20 years of services in the navy. Hubby and make sure to instill in their young minds that we should value all the men and women who served and serving the military especially those who gave their own lives just to protect the country.  Our son EJ  sometimes think that he want to be like Daddy too but we are not sure of it as he seems to have a flat feet hehehe.  But anyhow, he love walking around the house with his Dad's hat on.
While EJ is showing his love  for Daddy by wearing his hat all the time, Rylie shows her love by being loyal  to him with the foods especially the sweet treats he prefers hehehe.
She love it when Daddy make jello for her.  That's her favorite dessert to bring in school, that and fruits.

Frozen Pizza

Hubby always grabbed a box or two of the frozen pizza in the store.  He is a pizza lover so whenever he is craving for one and we don't have time to prepare for it, he can  just bake it in the oven and he will have an instant cheesy pizza.   This is a great value brand pizza  which we initially thought to suck but we were surprised because it was so good.  You will never know if one thing is good unless you try it and this one proves it.

Chicken BBQ and More

We've visited my FIL last Saturday and decided to make us some chicken BBQ.
We also grilled some  potatoes and green tomatoes.
The package of the chicken says to grill for 17 minutes but I grilled for over an hour and the meat was still not thoroughly cook sigh.
I wasn't satisfied with the outcome  but we ate it anyway lol.  I love the grilled potatoes but not the green tomatoes too sour.  Oh well, sometimes you succeed and sometimes you failed, that's part of life right?

Sinigang na Hipon

My daughter was craving for some shrimp the other day so I cooked the last  ones that we had in the freezer.
All the ingredients except  onion and  tomatoes  are frozen hehehe.  That's life over here in the   rocky mountain high lol.  If you can't sikmura frozen seafoods, you won't eat any.  It wasn't as good as the one you can cook fresh but it's good enough for me and my daughter.

Tomato Juice

My kids absolutely love their Pap.  We visit him almost everyday and their day isn't complete if we don't.  Last Saturday, we went there because  him and my daughter had plan of making tomato juice.  This is the second time they did it.  The first time was a couple of weeks ago with EJ (will post it next time).
For me personally, I preferred canning tomato sauce than juice because with the former, you do not throw any parts of the tomato but with the latter, you throw away some of the meat after the juicewas extracted.
But anyhow, my role is to clean the tomatoes, remove the core out and slice them.
The rest was done with our little princess who love to do these things.
She was singing while cranking the the thing.
Can you tell how much she enjoys it?
Making tomato juice is fun but messy lol.
After that, Pap did  sterelized the bottles and lids then he boiled the juice and caned them.

One Year Old Gracie

Gracie turned one year old last weekend and we all went to their home. The fun part of the celebration was the cake.  They have a big cake and a small cake for Gracie to eat where she could get messy.  Her Mom removed her clothes but to our amazement, she did not want to touch it instead she started biting it without using her hands lol.
Way to go Gracie, you made our day!  May God bless you with good health and bright future.
Have a safe weekend.
