Serenity - P365 # 241

In times of turmoil, it is best to just keep your cool and digest things. Keeping your silence gives you serenity and time to think on how to handle things effectively.

Serenity is not freedom from storm, but peace amid the storm.
-Nuggets of Wisdom-
August 30, 2011:
  • Today was Mr. Burrito's sixth day of  having lessons with me at home.  We did some progress, I can see how  interested he is in learning now. He got frustrated today when I let him try to write numbers 1-10, it was his first time to write and he was having trouble.  I told him that  we will try it again tomorrow.
  • I made some  spaghetti and garlic bread fir dinner today.

Lobster Bite - P365 # 240

Ms. Burrito wanted to try the Lobster Bite snack at Long John's Silvers.  I tried it but not really  too crazy about it.
August 29, 2011:

Gyro - P365 # 237

When my husband was working at MEPS in Pittsburgh, he got addicted to a Greek sandwich called Gyro.  The fried lamb meat is wrapped up in a pita bread  and topped with tomatoes.  Hubby said that the one he buys in Pittsburgh is loaded with veggies but the  Greek restaurant down here in Weirton only  puts  tomatoes, onions, and tzatziki.
August 26, 2011:

  • I just got done with my home lesson session wit Mr. Burrito.  It is our fourth day and he is making a great progress.  He can almost write all of the letters in his name.  He is also familiar with the alphabet and  numbers 1-10.  I  always thought that I would have a hard time  teaching my son but  as it turn out he is good.  It is  true that when a child is ready, he would cooperate and and learn things voluntarily.
  • I am doing some laundry today and I will get my daughter from school in 50 minutes.
  • I made some maki sushi for her school lunch and  my son and I ate  the rest of the sushi I made.  I made hubby a spaghetti for his lunch.

Princess Cake - Pr65 # 239

I forgot to post the cake that my daughter had during her 6th birthday.  We ordered this at Walmart.  I was impressed with the design and the taste of the cake but I was disappointed that  the  top layer of the cake  fell down when we start cutting it.
August 28, 2011:

  • I stayed away from the computer this morning.
  • We went to  church and proceeded to the store after mass.  We grabbed some groceries and stuff that we need inside the house.
  • When we came back home, we made a pan of  home made pizza then we went to the park after we ate.
  • Tomorrow will be hubby's first day in school for his Fall classes.
  • Hubby and the kids went to bed early so I have a chance to update here.

August 27, 2011:
  • We will be busy today.  I have to cook a dish for Bumble Bee's birthday celebration.  She is turning 1 year old in three days but  they are celebrating her birthday today.
  • I let our  rabbit earlier this morning but it turned out chaotic when  the  wandering cat at our neighborhood got inside the fence and tried to nail our rabbit.  The cat also attacked our dog.  So I sprayed the cat with water, that's when he  climbed out the fence.  My daughter was crying while the cat was  chasing  Wubzy.

Dining Out Occasionally

We seldom eat out because  Mr. Burrito  doesn't really eat good when we dine  out somewhere.
But once in a while, hubby  would crave for something that I dunno how to cook just like the Baja Chalupa  below from Taco Bell.  That was my first time  tasting the said   mexican food and I liked it.
I was impressed that Mr. Burrito actually ate a lot.
I don't have any problem with Ms. Burrito as she can eat just about anything.
At home, I make sure that we have veggies in our meal most of the time.  Sweets are also limited, I always insist for them to eat fruit as snacks instead of other  junk foods.
I think setting  an example on how to eat healthy to your kids is very important.  You can't tell them to eat veggies if  they don't see you eating any.

Cheery Tomatoes - P365 # 236

I did not buy any tomato seedling to plant in my garden. I just grew the seeds I have dried and collected from last year. As it turned out, they are all cherry tomatoes lol.  So if you want to make a salad and need some cherry tomatoes, you are welcome in my garden and pick some.
August 25, 2011:

  • I have to pick up my daughter at 12 noon today.
  • I just got done tutoring my son, it's our fourth day of lessons at home and he is doing  great. He can actually right his name alone.  If he master to right his whole name, I would start  making him spell it.  Right now, he  learned to recognize  most of the alphabet letters and  number 1-10.  I'll advance him after a month of teaching so that when starts to go to kindergarten, he will be alright.
  • I haven't figure out yet what to cook for lunch.  I made omelet for breakfast.  That's what daughter had  for her cold lunch too, that and a rice.
  • Time to get ready folks, thanks for dopping by.

Fruit Stand - P365 # 235

A fruit stand that was used in one of the movies created by disney (that's according to the tour guide that was with us). Just a pass by shot while we were riding a train in Hollywood Studio.

Tuna Cakes - P365 # 233

I made some tuna cakes sometime last week. Hubby was craving for it.
August 23, 2011:
  • Hubby walked down our daughter to her school this morning.  I have to pick her up this afternoon.
  • Today was  Mr. Burrito's  first day of  lesson with me.  I started with  making him learn how to write her full name.  We spent an hour doing that and he asked for a break lol.  I am giving him a 30 minutes break and we will resume in a little bit.  It is a little harder to teach a boy than a girl.  I have to really stretch my patience with him.
  • I won't be able to  bloghop as much as I used too.  I have students in and out of home so less time for blogging for me.  I ca only do bloghopping during night time when they are all sleeping.
Thanks for visiting.

Hearts Inside Strawberries - P365 # 232

Isn't it amazing how God created everything. You can see arts in almost everything you see.
All the four of us love strawberries here at home.
August  22, 2011:
  • Today was my  daughter's first day of school.  Thinking about it last night made me restless and ended up with a very few  hours of sleep lol.
  • We have to go to the store and get some stuff.  I have to prepare her lunch every morning this week to bring to school.

Happy Birthday Becka - P365 # 231

One of my sisters is celebrating her birthday today. Happy birthday Becka, I know how you regret having the kind of life that you have now but you are still lucky that you have three beautiful kids. Some women doesn't have that gift, so enjoy it. I pray that God give you more strength to carry on the burden you are facing. I miss and love you!

Celebrante - P365 # 230

A very good friend of mine is celebrating her birthday today.  Yup, that's her driving, she took me for a drive around Disney World a couple of weeks ago.  It was a very nice and memorable ride.  Thanks for being a  great driver  and friend sis!

My especial  wish for you is that may God  grant you with another baby so Akesha will have a playmate at your home sweet home .

The essence of friendship is not the smile and gestures we give
but a feeling when you discover that someone believes in you and willing to trust you.

August 20, 2011:
  • Oh I am glad I was able to  schedule this post last night.  I was pretty busy today.

Pizza Fiesta - P365 # 229

We bought some pizza ingredients and pizza dough last week. My daughter and I made it two days in a row. She calls our home made pizza a Pizza Fiesta because we basically stuffed it with ingredients that we like such as olives, pepperoni, pine apple, peppers, onion, mushroom, and lots of cheese.
The kids love helping me to do this.  It's a fun bonding for the three of us in the kitchen.
August 19, 2011:
  • Only one guy showed up today to work on our porch.  It's killing my husband to see how slow they work on the project.  I must admit, I am anxious for it to be done   too while the weather is still warm so we could at least use it before winter times.
  • I  prepared my daughter's  school supply and we still have to get her additional  two items so we might go to the store  today if the rain stops.  I also covered two of her books, I still need a bigger book cover because the three other ones we bought did not fit.
  • Tomorrow, I have to press her uniform.
  • Hubby and kids went to Dad's house this morning.  One of his bathroom had a leak so  my husband went there and fixed it.

Fresh Veggies - P365 # 228

I love having a vegetable garden, not only you get to cook freshly picked goodies but you also know that there is no pesticide or any other harmful chemical that was used to grow it.
August 18, 2011:

  • We went to  the school this morning and registered our daughter in  the  first grade class.
  • We went to her classroom after we paid and the  teacher, Mrs. Gain, walked Rylie through with the things she has to know.  The teacher said that I can only walk Ms. Burrito in the room for a week and after that,, I am off the limits wahhh.
  • We got her books and we have to buy cover materials to cover them.
  • I fried some lumpia/egg rolls for the kids and hubby and I ate rice with laing for lunch.
  • Have to go to the store.
Thanks for visiting.

Simple Anniversary Celebration - P365 # 227

We invited Dad over for our anniversary and I am grateful that he came. He ate dinner with us. I only made a lasagna and chicken wings.
Hubby bought a cake.
Then after dinner, we spent the rest of the day over at my FIL just chillaxing.
We were suppose to go somewhere but there are people working on our porch construction so we decided to just celebrate it at home.
Celebrating special milestones, doesn't need extravagant  gifts, what is important is the family and the love that you have for EACH other.

August 17, 2011:
  • I went to bed past two am last night so I got up a little late too (9 almost), whew.
  • Hubby made some pancakes, bacon, and egg for breakfast.  Thanks Hon!
Thank you so much for dropping by!

Tropical Veggies and Fruit

I was in the mood for some photo taking when we arrived this afternoon from our visit to my FIL.  I tried to grow some tropical plants such as papaya, mango, and pineapple i in my garden.  I just want to see if they will grow  because I use the  seeds from the  fruits that we bought in the store.  They live but I don't think they will bear fruit before  the end of summer  hehehe.  Below is the photo of the papaya, I am not sure if it will survive if  I transplant it into a pot and keep it inside the house during winter.
My peppers are just starting to  bear fruit and I am hoping that  I could harvest some before the cold  weather rolls in.
I have so many questions about gardening and I am glad I found   an array of videos of the Scotts Miracle-Gro's garden.  They  offer different kinds of tips  to improve your gardening technique.    This site is where I got the idea of adding mulch from my flower beds that I created in our backyard.    I actually just put a little in each  bed but when I saw the video at their site, I bought an additional mulch and added it to the flower beds. You can watch the video below and  choose the topic that you want to  see and you will  see the video being presented by Scott's associates.
How does ScottsMiracle-Gro’s garden grow?

Stuffed Cabbage - P365 # 225

I bought some hot pepper to be stuffed with italian sausage a couple of days ago.  When I made it, there were Italian sausage left so I used the napa cabbage  and stuffed it.  I chopped up some green bell pepper and baked it with spaghetti sauce, it was yummy!
August 14, 2011:

  • It was raining hard this morning and hubby and I thought that the construction team  isn't going to work on our porch today.  But they showed up and the rain lighten up a little bit.  I think that they are going to lay the blocks today.
  • I made bacon, eggs, and rice for breakfast,.  I will make  adobong sitaw for lunch.
  • I am doing some laundry today.
Thanks a lot for  visiting and for leaving your thoughts.

Traveling with Kids

Moving from one place to another gave us the u a chance to invest in good Luggage Sets that we can use every time we travel.  Even our kids has their own.  Getting your kids their own luggage boost their  willingness to help out with the things that you  need when travelling.  It also gives them the sense of responsibility and  taking care of their stuff.

When w had our  vacation in the Philippines, one  of our big luggage got tore up in the plane so we decided to buy us a new set before going back to Korea.  We love the one that we  have right now because it is durable, it holds a lot of things, and  you can pull it so easily.  The same set was the one we used when we had our one week vacation in Orlando Florida.

Traveling with kids is challenging but if you know what they want to do during the transit and you are prepared for it, the travel time is enjoyable for both the kids and the parents.  I want to share to you this website where you can find different kinds of luggage.

E is for Eggplant - P365 # 226

A filipina friend gave me three eggplant seedlings. I planted it in my vegetable garden and I enjoy harvesting the fruit.
I made some eggplant fritata for breakfast a couple of weeks ago and   everyone liked it.
Hubby liked the one where I switched from using bacon bits to a chopped up pepperoni.
Ingredients you need depends on  how you like it, I use tomatoes, bell pepper, onion, scallions, and some  spices.  You just mix the ingredients into two beaten eggs and then  dip the boiled, skinned, and mashed eggplant in it and fry it.  It's yummy!
August 16, 2011:
  • The construction team are now laying  the blocks for the foundation of the  porch.  I am getting excited for the outcome of this project.  The rain slows them down though.
  • Hubby and the kids walked down at the post office  to mail  a bill and pick up  a package that wasn't delivered yesterday.
  • I am thinking of making pork  sinigang or nilaga today.

Thanks for  visiting and for leaving your thoughts.

Disney Flower - P365 # 222

August 12, 2011:
  • My mind is thinking what I should cook for my family today.  Any suggestions?
Please drop by over at Pink Saturday, your comment will help  raise money for a good cause.  Thanks!

The Tooth Fairy

I have mentioned in my previous post that our 6 year old daughter lost her first tooth a couple of days ago.  My husband and I were laughing last night because put the tooth under her pillow so that the tooth fairy  will give her a prize.  We've waited  until she was sound asleep and  took the tooth out, we were surprised to find a note that she wrote "What do you look like? Please draw yourself."   I don't have the talent in drawing so my husband did the job.  When she woke up this morning, she was so happy to see the prize and the drawing.  I took a picture  but she said that she will  put it on her blog.

On the other note, I am glad that we found the   Best Dentist in the area because my kids are not afraid to have their  teeth checked.   I am also glad that we switched with our dental provider.  We used to go to a different dentist before we went overseas but every time  I go there, I feel so stressed as the dentist don't make you feel comfortable at all.    I did not want my kids to experience the same experience I had so we switched.

If you guys are looking for the best dentist that would take care of your dental needs,  please visit the helpful link above as they can match your needs and budget with the dentist they have on the list at their website.

Unorganized Garden

Because of the rain that we been getting, all the plants I have planted alongside our fence got out of hand. Most of them fell on the ground as I did not put any support to each of them (I will definitely do that next year).  I am happy though because most of my cherry tomatoes are getting ripe already and most of the veggies bears  fruit already.

Make the most out of the Summer by enjoying a Picnic

In one of my previous blog posts on this blog,  I told you how we managed to save money in Disney World by bringing delicious fruits as a snack to keep us going throughout the day. It got me thinking about picnics and how everyone loved them as a child, playing in the sunshine and enjoying the summer with the family.

Why not take the opportunity to take your family to your favorite picnic spot? Forget about the cutlery, try and aim to bring finger food. It’s great to take different types of food, lay them out on your rug and let everyone dig in.

Ideas of what to take include crisps, hard boiled eggs, carrot batons, cucumber batons, bananas, grapes, cereal bars, berries, apples, pears, cheese, salad, potato salad, olives, bread sticks, pitta bread, potato salad, houmous, cherry tomatoes, baguettes, ham, salami or a ready cooked roast chicks. The possibilities of what to bring are endless!

If you don’t have ice packs to put in your cool box, re-use old bottles by filling them up about 80% fill with water and freeze. They’ll melt throughout the day – ready to drink later on in the afternoon! You could also give this ago with cartons of fruit juices.

However, even though picnics are lovely and easy to make, they can be the cause of food poisoning if you’re not careful as food hanging around in the sun offers a breeding ground for some horrible bugs. If you bring meat, remember to keep it cold!
Thanks for commenting and for your visit.
