Fat Tuesday

This cup cake is called "The King's Cake", a custom that began in France. Legend has it that cakes were made in a circle to represent the circular routes that the wise men took to find Jesus in order to confuse King Herod and foil his plans of killing the Christ Child. Bakers would hide a "baby" representing Jesus in the cake. Whoever found the baby was said to have Good Luck in the coming year.
The word Mardi Gras means "Fat Tuesday" in French.  Mardi Gras is the last party before LENT begins on Ash Wednesday.  Lent is a time of prayer, preparation, and sacrifice to celebrate Easter.
The official color of Mardi Gras are purple (a symbol of justice), Green (representing faith), and Gold (to signify power).

  • My eyes are so watery because of  cold I am having.  Sometimes my right ear can't hear anymore because my nose is so clogged.  Both hubby and I are so congested.  Ms. Burrito's cough went away, thanks God for that but Mr. Burrito is still coughing.
  • We made some pork chop, steamed broccoli, and cream corn for dinner.  Sorry hon, I wasn't able to make the mashed potatoes you requested.
  • Me and Mr. Burrito  started to read another book.  We were not able to have classes last week because of the stomach flu so we have some catching up to do.
  • All my lovelies are now asleep and I would love to go to sleep now too.  My eyes are not cooperating  right now.

Crazy Promo from Zenni

CatalogHave you seen the latest  deal that Zenni Optical is offering?  Aside from the  already  low priced of  $6.95 prescription eyeglasses, you can buy two pairs of  eyeglasses now and get the third  pair for FREE.  How awesome is that?  You can't beat that kind of deal anywhere.  This promotion applies for all  eyeglasses so it doesn't matter which would you buy that would  get you an extra pair for free.  But of course it should be an equal value or less.

My husband read   the article I wrote about Zenni months ago and he asked me how  this company can  offer such an amazing deals.    I told him that  Zenni does not deal with middle men so  they do not  spend money on them that is whatever product you are buying , it comes out straight from the ware house which makes it   cheaper in price.  I found it very hard to believe too at first when I  learned about this website but with the  testimonials of the customers that save hundreds and hundreds of money in buying their prescription eyeglasses from Zenni, I  believe it.  I mean who wouldn't want to save money right?  So check it out and save money  on your next  eyeglasses  purchase.

Spanish Translation

Watching  kiddies shows with my kids, I learned that so many words in my country are  Spanish in origin especially the terms we use in the region where I grew up.  In fact one of the  Spanish  official  who went to the Philippines stayed for a long time in Bicol Region.  If I am not mistaken,  Legazpi City was named  after Miguel de Legazpi.  I can understand  a little bit of Spanish words but don't hire me as  translator because I definitely don't qualify for a Spanish translator job hehehe.  Seriously speaking, I think translating document is a fun job.  If only I have that natural talent to  learn  languages  easily.

  • My husband forced himself to go to school today even if he  was still  groggy from all that  yakking due to stomach virus.  Ms. Burrito did not go to school today, we let her rest  for an extra day because she wasn't  well  fully yet.  Mr. Burrito is feeling a little better but got  the big D again.  Both of them were in the mellow mood.  They both took a long nap this afternoon.
  • I spent my day   washing all our blankets to get rid of whatever these three has.
  • I made  a pan of rigatoni alforno for dinner.
  • I picked up Ms. Burrito's homework in school at noon and she did it  before  she took a nap.  The Mardi Gras treats that the teacher sent her made her day.  Thanks Mrs. Gain and to the Mascio family.

Lost Fame

I was watching a TV show the other day  about the   famous stars who   lost their  way up because of addiction to drugs and alcohol.  It is sad to see those talented  people    whose potential of success got wasted but it's one reality that still exist till  this very moment.  Some get out of addiction  through the help of   detox centers that offers oxycontin detox addiction and other treatment but some   were not  lucky to get out of it.

February 21, 2012:

  • My husband  has a bad  stomach ache  when he woke up so he did not  go to school  He is s6till laying in bed so sick.
  • When I woke my daughter up, I saw it i b her eyes that she wasn't feeling very well so I ask her if she's okay and she said  yes.  At  around 12:30, her teacher called and informed me that  Ms. Burrito is indeed sick.  She  vomited all over the place so I  went to school and picked her up.  Now I have three  patients at home.  Mr. Burrito just got better with his stomach flu  but he is still recuperating.  Oh, I get worried when all the three are sick.  It's very hard for a Mom to see   her kids suffer.  Ms. Burrito  threw up again when she came home  and now she is  sleeping.  I hope and pray that the three will get better soon.
  • It's almost midnight  and I thought that   everything will be okay but my son  woke up and  vomited  all over the bed.  I had to give him a hot shower and now I am washing all the bedding.  I spent washing  yucky clothes and bedding today.  Oh my goodness, I hope that  the  stomach virus will leave my lovelies alone.

Dependable Lawyers at Barrie

Before I came here in the States, I tried to buy a piece of land in the place where  I came from.  However, the developer had a problem   with the city and postponed the development of the area.   I tried to   request for a refund but the developer  did not want to return the investment I paid.  So we hired a lawyer to process the refund for us but unfortunately, it's been two years since the petition  was filed and  nothing is happening.

I just wish  that there are dependable lawyers in our  place like the lawyers in Barrie who confidently delivers their services  to the clients with results.  When it comes to legal system, I think my country is the most slowest    that I have experienced.  Lucky are the  people in Barrie Ontario because they have lawyers that they can depend on just like Stewart Esten.  It must be very nice to  get a result of your legal claim  in a reasonable amount of time unlike the over due wait period  of my claim.  But anyhow, for a dependable  barrie lawyers, check out the  above mentioned  law firm.

Toast to the Red Carpet

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Let's talk about  butter today.  What kind of butter do you guys usually buy?  In our  kitchen, it is always the I Can't Believe  It's not Butter.  My husband love the Mediterranean Blend with his toasts.  If you want to experience how good  this kind of butter is, you should  participate in their  exciting  contest called the Toast to the Red Carpet – LIVE, presented by I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter!  Movie fans are invited to the streaming live online show that you can watch    at their Facebook page.  To compensate your time, they are giving away a coupon of free  tub of I Can't Believe It's Not Butter which will be mailed to the winner after  February 26th.  To be eligible for the drawing, you must leave a comment on this post I will draw the winner on February 26th.  You can check out the  live show online by checking the link above.   I found a great recipe that I can try to make, it's the Fusili with fresh Red  and Yellow Tomato.  The preparation is 20 minutes and it doesn't  call for too much ingredients.  I think my  lovelies here at home would like this dish as they like pasta.

Forty Three

The father of our household turned forty three last Friday.  He had  classes the whole day that day.  Ms. Burrito asked me not to cook  until she gets home from school so she could help.   We made some rice stick noodles (pancit bihon) and made some  puto.
Hubby skipped one  subject so he could get home early.  So when he came home, the food is not done yet.  The puto was a little dried out because I baked it instead of  steaming it but it still tasted good.
We had a simple celebration at home.  The kids made a home made card  for their Dad.

Gazebo Wish

If there's one thing that I would love to have in our backyard, that would be a gazebo.  Hubby and I looked at some last year at the nearby store and I like those wood gazebo ones.  Hey look  sturdy and they look so beautiful.  Hubby got his  project done which is the  front porch and I am wishing to  have mine  sometime in the future, that is to have a gazebo at my backyard hehehe.

Manufactured Homes

There is one area here in the city where we live  that has manufactured homes.  I told my husband that I find them really neat and cute.  Hubby said that you can actually buy manufactured homes for sale nowadays and they are heavy duty too.  He said that some of it are much  stronger than the   regular homes.  I think I would love to live in one.

Teacher Budget

Guest post written by my buddy Bernardo Graham

Being a teacher, I do not make as much money as I would like. I have taught for six years, and got my masters degree after teaching for two years. I am now working on getting my doctorate primarily for the pay increase. Until I get my doctorate, I will have to find ways to save money because my wife stays home with our two kids. I have a friend who told me that he saved money on his power bill by switching to fixed-rate energy. I did an online search for electric rates for texas residents and found that we could also switch. My wife gets so stressed out talking about finances because her parents always fought about money when she was growing up. I have told her several times that it is necessary for a couple to talk about budgeting, but she would rather me just handle all of the budgeting instead of talking to her about it. It’s not that we’re struggling financially, but we are having to watch what we spend since we do want to save some money for the kids’ college funds. I guess that’s just part of life with kids.

Online Organization

Have you tried the new awesome tool to organize your life online  from clipix?  My husband even liked it in  putting his  favorite stuff that he plans to get someday.  I use it to clip  some of the articles that I want to read in the night time when my kids are sleeping already.  As a stay-at-home-mom, I am always busy attending to their needs during the day so my online activities are always  on my last priorities.  Clipix is a  useful tool that you can  put in your  bookmark bar because you can clip and clip stuff that you  want to go back to when you're free.  The list of things that you can do is endless.  To get a fully grasp of what  of what I am talking about, please watch the video below.

Clipix can help you organize  events, shopping  ideas,  activities, and many other stuff and you can do this without spending a penny.  You can personalize your clipboard that way, you know where to look at when you are ready to do the things that you planned to do.  You can share this to your friends and family via Facebook  or twitter and you won't  have to miss those important things that matters.

Best Offer Furniture

We are doing our taxes this weekend  so  it would be off our shoulder and pay  the due amount  for the state.  My husband tried to do it  online but  it's not giving us the option that we need to put some of our deductions so we will  let H&R Block do it for us.  My husband's niece works  at one of the Tax company that prepares  big branches  at Highland Hills so we are going there this weekend.  If we will get back some tax return, we are planning to  turn our dining room into a bedroom which means that we will need a small dining set to fit the space we were putting it in.  The set in the photo is the  perfect one that I found at Best Offer Furniture.  They have good deals on dining room tables, dining sets, and  other dining room accessories and furniture.  If you compare their prices from other  furniture company provider, you would find  that their offered prices are much lesser than the competition.  When we bought our dining room set  years ago, we did not have the time to canvas from different   stores because the  other one is too far from us.    But now that I have access online, it is easier to find the best deal.

  • I made some pizza out of the sisig left over that we had from last night.  I jus took it out from the oven and  will eat after this post.
