Fresh Veggies

One of the many things I love during summer is the fresh veggies that I can pick from  vegetable garden and use it for my cooking.  They taste differently than that  of store bought.

These are the veggies I picked from my garden and used it for my  pork soup.

Birthday Cake for Ms. Burrito

This is the birthday cake that my daughter had on her birthday.  It is a store bought as we did not have time to bake.  We went for  a road trip on the day she celebrated her 8th birthday.  So far, we have been enjoying  having a big vehicle because we can go for a drive in a spacious  vehicle and the kids  are always  busy enjoying  their movie whenever they get bored of  looking at the views.
I wish you all a happy weekend!

Low-Carb Lifestyle

I don't really  count calorie nor pay attention to the number of carbs that is in my food.  I do however,  pay attention to the portion of the food that I eat.   I do believe that if you  eat the right portion, the less chance of you getting fat.  Of course, you need some exercise  with that in order to   stay fit.  Anyway, I have been  fortunate to have given a chance to try some healthy  foods from different companies.  I would love to try the Low Carb Diet Foods at Low Carb Grocery.  They have many selection to choose from.

Low Carb  Grocery would be  a perfect place for those who watch closely the number of crab intake in their diet.  With these specific  products,  you would be able to track your  carb and  learn  the proper diet that you need to maintain your low carb diet lifestyle.  Are you one of those who  live a low-carb lifestyle?  How do you  track down the amount of carbs  in your food?  Would you mind  sharing it here?  I want to know some tips and  techniques.

Green Beans

My son picked the beans last week and cooked it adobo style with pork.  My kids and husband love this dish  so whenever we have beans, that's what they want.  My  daughter can eat bowls and bowls of  steamed green beans  sprinkled with black pepper.  I am planning to  plant more beans next year rather than  brocolli which took a big part of our garden.

I forgot to take a photo of the  dish, I will do that next time though so you'd see hehehe.

Fettucini Alfredo with Brocolli

I made some fettuccine alfredo  for dinner a couple of days ago.  I added some broccoli to it since my kids love broccoli.  It was a hit, we ate it all!

How about you, what kind of pasta dish  you like the most?

Homemade Granola Bars

Last Monday, Ms. Burrito woke up very early and she cooked  breakfast for us (bacon, eggs, and rice).
When I woke up, she did not want me to go to the kitchen because she is baking something.  She found a recipe online  on how to make homemade granola bars and she tried it.  She used some of the goodies that we received from Newman's Own Organic.
I was pleasantly surprised as it was really good.  We all eat it fr snacks.  Way to go Ms. Burrito, you rock!  Our officially-8-year-old chef is getting better and better in the kitchen each day!

Organic Goodies from Newman's Own

I worked with Newman's Own Organics  two times already .  I was overjoyed  with the   huge box they sent me  before as it was full of goodies!  They also sent me a box full of  yummy treats for our Fur Babies.   This is the thirds time that I received a full box of   healthy and yummy treats from the said company.

Newman's Own Organics  box  contains:

  •  3 bags of  pretzels (this is my daughter and I's favorite).
  • 4 packs of licorice (cherry, apple, strawberry, and mango flavor)  Mango flavor is our favorite.
  • 1 pack Berry Bland
  • A pack Apricot
  • 2 packs  chocolate cups
  • 3 bags of cookies, we love all three flavors, in fact two of them were gone already lol
  • 1 pack  soft Hermit cookie.
  • 1 bottle  Balsamic Vinegar
  • 1 bottle olive oil.
My daughter has been enjoying the balsamic vinegar.  She likes to dip the  freshly cut cucumber in it.  The olive oil is a great one for me to have in the kitchen for my cooking.

Newman's Own Organics or NOO  not only have healthy snacks for the  us but for pets as well.  I would like to try their coffee.   My daughter made  her own version of granola bar yesterday and she  put some of the apricots in it, it was surprisingly  delicious.  I will post it separately next time.

Below is Ms. Burrito's creativity, she used the pretzel sticks to  write her name .

Thank you so much once again Newman's Own Organics for your generosity!

3 Kid Friendly Recipes to Turn Their Tastebuds

When your baby first started on solid foods, it was a delight watching their faces change from surprise to enthusiasm, as their tastebuds savoured the different textures and flavours of foods offered to them. At that young age, they relished anything that was given to them. Food for children is an exploration and an important part of their growth and development. They will go through the fussy phase where they may refuse to eat anything, other than bread and butter or whatever else they may be focusing on at that time. This can be a particularly trying stage for stressed out parents or caregivers who are trying to coax a child to eat a healthy nourished filled diet. There are many ways to incorporate wholesome foodstuffs into meals without the little ones knowing what they are eating, other than something yummy!

Mini Burgers

Ingredients: Lean Mince, finely grated carrot, 1 egg, finely grated zucchini, Continental rissole recipe base, ½ cup grated cheese (optional). Method: Combine all ingredients, shape by hand into small burgers and cook on a lightly oiled pan. Serve on small dinner rolls and let the kids apply their own sauce and build their own burger with a selection of shredded lettuce, tomato, etc. Salad is optional, as they are getting veges in their burger patty, unknown to them!

Quick Quiche

Ingredients: Slices of bread, crusts removed, 6-8 eggs, can of corn kernels, ½ cup grated cheese, diced bacon or chicken or whatever filling you prefer, Continental cup a soup (mushroom or cream of chicken). Method: Grease an ovenproof dish and line with bread. Make sure to overlap bread and press flat. Beat eggs with cup a soup, mix in other ingredients and pour onto bread base. Sprinkle with extra cheese and bake in oven until set and lightly browned on top.

Kids Pasta

Ingredients: 250g kid friendly pasta shapes, Continental tuna mornay recipe base, can of tuna or finely diced chicken, grated cheese, can of corn kernels, milk. Method: Cook & drain pasta. Add all ingredients, mix lightly, bake in greased ovenproof dish until golden. Prior to baking, extra cheese can be sprinkled on top.
Good nutrition for children is very important. Growth, development and good health can all be linked back to nutrition. By ensuring children get a daily intake of necessary vitamins through food, this will build their immune system, build healthy tissue and bones and build a solid health foundation for their later life. This all good in theory but children are children and part of their development includes tantrums, sometimes refusal to eat and little mood swings. By having a look at contintental.com.au for tips on making ordinary food exciting, it is easy to entice even the fussiest little eater with some kid tempting recipes. It is important to remember that children’s tastebuds are developing, so if they reject a certain food this week, try it again in a few weeks. You might be surprised to find that they now like it.

The Grocer and Cooler Insert from ADK Packworks

ADK Packworks sent me this versatile grocery bag.  It is versatile in the fact that you can use it as a backpack, a tote, and a grocery bag.  Pretty cool isn't it.  It stands tall but it folds small which is  really a plus as you can store it neatly when not in use.  This would be great for me to bring when shopping at the Asian  Market as  they don't have to put our goodies  in their bulky and extra heavy  boxes.
This shopping bag is not your typical  bag  because it stands up when you put it on the floor/ground.  I love the fact that they g also give you the cooler insert to be put inside The Grocer bag when you have something  that you want to stay  cold.  You can zip it up to seal the coldness.

I love how manufacturers are  coming out with these handy innovative products, it makes  us shoppers do our  stuff easier and  in style.  There are so many ways to go GREEN and this  shopping bag is one of the many!  Check them out and get yours now and start contributing to a greener life by eliminating the use of plastic bags when you shop.

Healthy Surprise

Hello everyone, how's  midweek  coming along your way.  I have been busy doing stuff with my kids that I am  way behind of the products  that I received for review.  But one by one, I will get this done hopefully before the end of this week, although I doubt I would finish all of them but I will try my best.

Anyway, one of the  packages I received  last week was a  box full of healthy snacks from Healthy Surprise.  It's a starter box of goodies  that cost $33 a month  if you are a member.  It contains 16-20 servings for  1 to 2 people.  The box includes Organic Veggie Gos  Roasted Seaweed Snack,  Fruit snack munchies, macaroons,  chia bars, tart, pumpkin seeds, and rawma bar.
We brought this box of healthy snacks during our road trip and it really fills some spots while we were on the road.  Hubby and I love the Veggie Chips  from the Daily Crave.  I would certainly buy this chips from the store.
I thought that I would like the Rawma Bar, a  high enzyme energy bar with sesame and mango but I wasn't really fond of it.  It's full of healthy organic ingredients stuff  such as dates, sesame seeds,  mangos, bananas, pumpkin seeds, sunflower and  flax seeds.

I love the pumpkin seeds  with sea salt, the veggie chips, the seaweed snack with chipotle which I ate with the fresh cucumbers that we have, and the mango acai which is also my daughter's favorite.   I haven't tried the macaroon and the chia bar.

Healthy Gift Basket
I would say that Healthy Surprise  is a fun and  easy way to eat healthy especially to those who love to munch on snack.  These healthy box surprises would make a great gift so if you want to give somebody something healthy, consider  sending them  a box of Healthy Surprise.

Dinner Celebration after the Piano Recital at Chico Fiesta

This post is long overdue but oh well, life is busier than ever.  Anyway, the photos were taken on June 2 at Chico Fiesta, a Mexican Restaurant at our area.  We invited our family neighbors who attended  Ms. Burrito's piano recital for a dinner.

Thanks to the Howells' and Fancher family for being there always for us and the kids.  We are blessed to have such great neighbors, they are like family to us.

I like the food at Mexican restaurant but boy, I don't have the guts to finish a dish.  They are  humongous!  We always end up bringing a box home whenever we eat there.

I love this photo I took of my  husband and daughter.
