Polvoron Recipe and New Kitchen Gadgets

Before I  give you the recipe to one of my favorite childhood snack, let me  show you the new  kitchen items that I received from Ozeri.  First is the double wall thermo glass .  I love these glasses, because they are    heat and shatter resistant so you can also use this for  hot coffee or tea.  The double wall design is created  to keep your hands cool with hot drinks and free of condensation with chilled beverages.  Now, most  regular glass  is not  microwave safe but this is an exception.  You can try it for yourself, I did and I was amazed.
The milk frother is fun to have especially if you have kids like my son who loves milk and milkshake.  I had a set of this with pitcher  before and  my daughter uses it a lot to make her brother something special for his milk treat.  This is a petite gadget and  yet powerful.  It whips up foam in as little as 10 secs. If you love  cappuccinos, lattes, espressos, hot chocolates, shakes and frappes, this is ideal for it.  The set includes an egg beater to whisk eggs, soups, dressings, sauces and other non-solid food items, and a propeller-shaped attachment for mixing cocktails.
The last but not the least is the wok.  I have had their wok before and loved using it everyday when I cook but just like anything else, it gets worn out especially if you use it lot like I do in my kitchen.  I am glad that I have a new one.
What I love about this wok is that it delivers unprecedented non-stick performance without releasing harmful fumes or toxins at high temperatures.  It is scratch resistant and I love that it is super easy to clean.  The depth of the wok is  a great advantage to me because I hate splatters all over the counter.
When I get new kitchen gadgets, it really inspires me to cook  my family's favorite dishes.
I always make sisig, a favorite Filipino dish.  Since my son can't handle spicy food, I always make sure to get him a separate dish before I add the  peppers.  Sisig is great to eat with rice.  You can check the link for the recipe.
Before I give you the  recipe for polvoron, here's a little info about this  yummy treat.  Polvoron  is  shortbread-type of  cookies made with a soft, crumbly mixture of toasted flour, powdered milk, sugar butter, and nuts or any other seeds that you like.  In the Philippines, they normally use peanuts because it is the  cheapest nuts you can buy but you can use just about any kind like almonds.
You will need the following:

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups skimmed milk or powdered milk
  • 1 cup  sugar
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp  flax seeds
  • 1/2 cup  chopped and  toasted  almond.
  1. In a big bowl, add the flour, skimmed milk,  and sugar.  Mix it well.  Mixing the  three ingredients will eliminate the issue of the  milk  forming into lumps when in the pan.
  2. In a  heated wok, toast the  chia and flax seeds.
  3. Add the flour mixture and start mixing it until it is toasted.
  4. Add the toasted  almonds.
  5. Pour in the butter and mix it well.
  6. Turn off the heat and transfer it to a bowl and let it cool.

You can put it in a mold and wrap it for future consumption. I just put it in the jar because I don't have a wrapper. I love snacking on it with my coffee or tea.  To purchase any of these items, visit the links  below:

Stuffed Jalapeño and Portabela Mushroom with Tuna and an Awesome Grilling Rack

I love  stuffed peppers especially jalapeño  because it is spicy.  The only issue I had with  jalapeño is when coring it out  because I don't like wearing gloves when I am in the kitchen.  Luckily for me, Cavetools  have the perfect tool for me to have, the  Jalapeno Grill Rack and Pepper Corer Tool.   I was very excited when they sent me this because I always use peppers when I cook and most of the times, I remove the seeds  because my kids can't handle  very spicy food.
As soon as I received the items, I went to the store  and bought some  jalapeños because my hot peppers in the garden are not ready to pick yet.    I also got some tuna so I can make one of my husband's favorite   dishes. I normally  cut   jalapeños in halves and  stuffed it with tuna then   bake it.  But now that I have the pepper grill rack, I can actually stuffed  it whole then grill it.
What I like about this  set is that you can  make delicious grilled pepper recipes Like Bacon Wrapped or cream cheese stuffed Jalapeno poppers on your pepper cooker curved stainless steel pepper corer .  You can flawlessly pulls out Jalapeno cores and serrated edge slices off pepper tops with ease.
Here's a simple recipe for this delicious  grilled jalapeños.

  • 12 medium size jalapeño
  • 2 small cans of tuna
  • 1 medium shallot
  • 1/4 cup chopped scallions
  • 1 tbsp pineapple chunk
  • 1/2 cup  miracle whip or mayo
  • 2 Portabela Mushroom
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 1/2 cup  mozzarella cheese for topping

  • Wash the jalapeño and start coring  them.

See how easy it  removed  the core?  I think my favorite of this set is the corer because I can use it all the time.
Now I don't have to  worry about cutting the  pepper in half just to remove the core.  I can prepare it as a whole without a fuzz.

  • Once the core is out, put them on the rack while you are preparing the  stuffing.

  • Combine all the ingredients for the stuffing; mayo, pineapple, scallion, shallots, tuna, and salt and pepper.

  • Remove the stem of the portabela mushroom.

  • Then stuffed both the jalapeño and mushroom with the tuna mix.

  • Then when you're done stuffing them,  just put them in the  grill and  wait for it to cook away.

This rack would also works as a chicken leg grill rack.  With its perfect clearance, you won't burn your drumsticks or Jalapeno peppers when cooking on the barbecue smoker or in the oven.  This would make a perfect gift for those  you know who love to grill peppers or chicken.  You can get this via amazon and enjoy a 15% discount by using this  coupon code ROASTPEPPER15.
I included the portabela mushroom for the kids.  My son can't handle spicy food but my daughter loves it.  She ate  half of the mushroom and  also had some jalapeño.
Check the link on the picture below for more or more stuffed  pepper recipe.

Birthday Bundle of #KitchenTools and Special Treats from #Fambam

Growing up, I  don't remember having a cake  or  any birthday party  when we celebrate our birthdays.  I have 8 siblings and just providing for our basic needs is what my parents can afford and it was good enough for all of us.  We managed to have a enjoyable childhood with whatever we had.  We never had fancy toys and yet, we always have fun time everyday playing with each other around the neighborhood.  It was  safe back in the day that our  parents never had to worry about our safety, it's  way different these days.
However, I am very lucky to enjoy all of the things that I never had  in my younger years now that I am older.  I have an awesome husband and wonderful children who showers me with  great companions and give me plenty  of  hugs and kisses everyday.  The gifts are just the icing on the cake.  What matters to me  is the love.  It's amazing  that when you grow older, your priorities and outlook in life changes.  You value  non-material things such as family and friends.
These bouquet of strawberry roses were waiting  in the breakfast table when I got up during my birthday.  My daughter made them and my husband cooked  breakfast for us.  I don't really care for cake on my birthday but they always get me one anyway.  I like this  cake though, I thought it's beautiful!
Now that I am in the mid-40s, I am trying to embrace the things that I am not fond of like color purple.  The purple icing and candles  are perfect color combo with the pink.
Aside from  gifts from family and friend, I also received a bundle  of  kitchen tools and gadgets for my kitchen from Ozeri.
They sent me a set of  this Elite Chef Ceramic 3-Piece Knife Set in black,  the 3-Piece Adjustable Ceramic Knife stand, and the Moderna Artisan Series Wine Glasses.
The set of 4 insulated borosilicate wine and beverage glasses are awesome  for entertainment this summer time.  Each glass holds 10 oz. of  cold  wine.  The patented double wall design preserves a wine's ideal serving temperature by suspending the wine within an inner chamber.   I think it's brilliant that they designed it to have an  opposing mouth-blown dimples that allow for a natural grip.  They normally  sell for $29.95 but now on sale for $26.36, check it out on amazon.
I love their ceramic knife and  stand.  The knives are really awesome in cutting our veggies and fruits.  If you want to  get it, they  are now  on sale for $18.95 via amazon, it's original price is $79.99.  It would be a perfect  gift set for  your love ones who love to cook.
What I like about it is the fact that unlike metal knives, these Elite Chef Knives do not corrode, rust or leach metal ions from extended exposure to moisture, oils or acids in common foods.  The stand is also on sale for $9.95 from it's original price of $19.95, check them out on Amazon.
I'd like to  take this opportunity to thank all of you who took time to send me  birthday greetings and  showered me with special gifts.  Thanks to Ozeri for continuously working with me.

VeggieZip with Hydroliners from BluApple

Having fresh greens in the  fridge is always a good sight  for me.  I miss having  them in my backyard but my garden in this new home is not fully develop yet so buying them from the store  is what we can do.  I do however don't like  the fact that they wilt very easily so I have to buy it when we really  want to  consume it right away.   That's one reason why I am so grateful that Bluapple  contacted me again to review one of their new products, the Veggie Zip.  Bluapple developed some products  that prolongs the produce freshness.
I love this new one because I have tried this technique before with paper towel and it helps  but not for a long period of time.  With Bluapple's VeggieZips, they  are specially designed produce bags that allow us  to create the perfect humidity for all the different types of produce that we have in the fridge. So depending on what we will be using it for, you can adjust  the humidity which is outlined below.
These VeggieZips are vented with the patent-pending U-Vent technology.  It allows fresh air in and helps the ethylene gas to escape through small flaps that cover the bag. Each bag comes with HydroLiners.  You can use the soft, cloth-like hydroliners wet, dry, or not at all depending on the needs of the produce.
Here are some tips from Bluapple using their  VeggieZip:

  1. When storing produce that needs additional moisture to stay fresh, like lettuce, cilantro, or green onions, dampen the HydroLiner, gently wrap it around the produce, place in the VeggieZips bag, store in the refrigerator, and re-dampen the HydroLiner as necessary.
  2. If you are storing produce that needs excess moisture absorbed, like mushrooms, berries, and cauliflower, wrap the produce in a dry HydroLiner, place in a VeggieZips bag, and store in the refrigerator.
  3. There are some types of produce that do not need moisture added or absorbed, like peppers, eggplant, and nectarines. With these, just place the produce inside the VeggieZips bag without a HydroLiner and store in your refrigerator.

We all know  that produce can be  expensive sometimes so these VeggieZips will not only prolong the life of the produce but it will save us money as well.   There are 22 VeggieZips and 22 hydroliners in a pack.  You can buy it here  for $9.99.  I have looked at our local store if they have this yet but I didn't see it.
You can check out their social media pages  in the following links: Facebook Instagram Twitter Pinterest.

After Recital Dinner at Chico Fiesta

We attended the Torrence Music recital  last weekend and it was  awesome.  We always  go out for a dinner with friends  that we invited for the event but this time only one of them  could come to the recital but unfortunately couldn't  dine in with us due to prior commitment she have.
We went to our favorite Mexican restaurant here in the area.  I like their food but the only thing I am not  fond about is the  serving size, they are huge!  We always come home with  left over.  My daughter and I always  share what I order and  we still can't finish it but other than that, I think they have pretty  delicious  variety of Mexican Food.
They are always  packed and busy  especially during  weekdays.  We originally planned on going to Theo Yianni's bur we changed our minds when our friend couldn't come with us.
My favorite dish  is the tilapia  cancun, it is so good with the roasted veggies and other sides that comes with it (refried beans, rice,  guacamole and salad).  See, just listing all of that makes me full already lol.
Anyway, while listening or watching to the  video of the The Dance below,  I want to share this
prs se, check it out at . The owner of the music  place where my daughter take her piano lessons announced that  she will be hiring a violin teacher so my daughter is very excited about it, she can finally use the violin that we got her last Christmas.  Here's the video I took during the rehearsal.

Mother's Day Dinner at Theo Yianni's Restaurant #WhenInWeirton

After attending mass  on  Mother's Day, we decided to eat at Theo Yianni's.  It's a family restaurant   here in Weirton that  serves Greek food.  They recently expanded and relocated to a new  and bigger  location.  Hubby and I  ate at their old  location and thought that their food  is decent but we have never taken our kids to eat there yet so we thought this would be a  great time to introduce them to Greek food.
When it comes to  eating, my husband is  well-rounded  because of his world-wide experiences  when he was still in the Navy.  He's the one who introduced me to different kinds of food.  When I was single, all I know is  Filipino food but when I got married, I was introduced to a different kind of cuisines.
Anyway, Theo Yianni's new location is bigger and beautiful compared to their old location.  Their facility is super clean and the ambiance is very inviting.  All their  employees are super nice and we love the fact that the owner walks around the table and talk to patrons, that to me is a big plus.
Theo Yianni's is a combination of a bar and a restaurant.  The bar is located on the other side and the restaurant on the other.
My three dining buddies always get something sweet to drink when we go out but I always  have water with lemon.
My daughter and I's meals came with  fresh salad.  The salad alone filled me up already.
My daughter love the dipping sauce for the  dinner rolls.  I didn't care about it.  To me  dinner roll is good to eat as it is lol.
I had the  bourbon glazed  salmon.  It came with potatoes and  beans.  The beans is cooked with tomato sauce, it was my first time having that kind of beans prepared that way.  It was something new.  I'm not sure if I like it or not lol.

They have a dish called flaming  something (sorry I can't remember the exact   dish name lol) but  it was cool to watch the server  do it in front of the customer.  My husband took a picture but it didn't caught the flame.
I like the way they serve food, every server has to bring this portable table for them to set the tray before distributing orders.  I thought it's quite  unique and very  helpful  for the servers to deliver food   in every table efficiently.
Overall, it was a great dining experience  at Theo Yianni's.  If you ever come to Weirton and looking for a good place to eat, I would  say "Check out Theo Yianni's".
I had a great Mother's day celebration with my lovelies!  Hubby and the kids got me  some  special treats too.
Instead of bouquets, I love  miniature roses because I can plant and grow them and  they always reminds me of the special occasion whenever I am in the garden and see them bloom!
These  assorted brownies have  the fudge, cream cheese, and  turtle ones.  My favorite was the  cream cheese.
The brownies are so good but very rich so it kind of messed up my diet lol.  But it's okay as we hot the tennis court after we ate  our dessert.
